Parmalat: trading at 5% above Lactalis' offer.
(CercleFinance.com) - Will the French dairy giant Lactalis have to raise the price offered to Parmalat's minority shareholders to succeed in its takeover bid? We can indeed ask this question; in Milan, the Parmalat share is trading at 2.
95 euros this morning, when Lactalis wants to launch a takeover bid at 2.80 euros.
Following a hostile takeover bid in 2011, the Laval group already owns 87.7% of its Italian counterpart, which has a total market capitalisation of 5.4 billion euros.
On 27 December, Lactalis announced the forthcoming launch of a takeover bid on the remaining 12.3% stake in Parmalat's capital that it does not already hold. "After over five years at the helm of the company, (Lactalis) wants to give it a new dynamic that could be more easily and efficiently reached over the long term without resorting to the equity market," the group justifies.
