McDonald's: Krispy Kreme donuts distributed in US
(CercleFinance.com) - American fast-food giant McDonald's announced on Tuesday that it would be distributing Krispy Kreme doughnuts in its US restaurants from this year.
The decision is the culmination of a successful test phase, carried out in 160 outlets in Lexington and Louisville (Kentucky), which exceeded all expectations, according to the fast-food group.
Under the terms of the agreement, Krispy Kreme donuts will be available in McDonald's restaurants by the end of the year, with the aim of achieving national roll-out by 2026.
Initially, only three flavours (sugar icing, chocolate icing and colored sprinkles, and vanilla-flavored filling and chocolate icing) will be offered individually or in boxes of six, throughout the day.
This is a real change of dimension for Krispy Kreme, which will now have access to all 13.500 McDonald's restaurants in the US.
Following this announcement, Krispy Kreme shares rose by over 25% on Tuesday morning on the New York Stock Exchange, while McDonald's shares were up just 0.1%.
