Alphabet: Google deploys new cables to Japan

(CercleFinance.com) - Google, Alphabet's main subsidiary, announced plans on Thursday to invest around $1bn in the construction of a new submarine cable between the US and Japan.


This new infrastructure, to be deployed by Japanese IT and network specialist NEC, will link the island of Hawaii to the archipelago.

Another cable, also installed by NEC, will link Japan to the Northern Mariana Islands and the US territory of Guam, Google says.

These new links between the US and Japan are part of Google's initiative to improve interconnection between the countries and the various islands in the Pacific Ocean.
