Airbus: promising results for 100% SAF fuel

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has reported initial results from its ECLIF3 study on the impact of 100% sustainable jet fuel (SAF) on the two engines of a commercial aircraft - an Airbus A350 powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines - that are considered "promising".


In-flight emissions tests with 100% SAF and a HEFA/Jet A-1 fuel blend were resumed this month, while ground-based emissions tests to quantify the benefits of SAF on ambient air quality were also conducted.

The research team found that FAS releases fewer particulates than conventional paraffin under all operating conditions. In addition, FAS has a lower density, but higher energy content per kilogram of fuel.
