BAE Systems: working on a hybrid engine with Cummins

(CercleFinance.com) - BAE Systems has announced a collaboration with Cummins on the integration and certification of a hybrid diesel engine for the mass transit market, with launch scheduled for 2027.


Offered to mass transit specialists, this 'proven and cost-effective' hybrid electric solution will reduce fuel consumption and associated pollutant emissions.

In addition to the fully hybrid electric drive system, BAE Systems will offer technical support and systems integration expertise.

The engine will also include proven engine start/stop and geo-tracking technology, enabling the vehicle to automatically switch to fully electric bus mode when entering designated green zones.
