BASF: carbon capture project in Antwerp

(CercleFinance.com) - Air Liquide and BASF have announced plans to develop the world's largest cross-border carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) value chain project, so as to significantly reduce CO2 emissions from the industrial hub at the port of Antwerp.

This joint project, called "Kairos@C", which is set to be operational in 2025, has been selected by the European Commission to receive funding through its Innovation Fund.

Combining capture, liquefaction, transport and large-scale storage of CO2 in the North Sea, Kairos@C integrates several innovative technologies and will avoid the emission of 14.2 million tonnes of CO2 over its first 10 years of operation.

BASF shares are down over 2.5%, while Air Liquide shares are up 0.5% on Monday afternoon, just over an hour from close.
