Rio Tinto: paid $8.5bn in tax and royalties in 2023
(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto reports that it paid a total of $8.
5bn in taxes and royalties worldwide in 2023.
A year earlier, it paid $10.8bn, including $1.5bn in Australian corporate taxes relating to previous years.
In Australia - home to almost half of the company's global operations - taxes and royalties totaling $6.6bn (A$10bn) were paid in 2023, including corporate tax of $4.1bn (A$6.2bn).
Rio Tinto also made significant tax and royalty payments in Canada ($601m), Chile ($477m), Mongolia ($371m) and the US ($123m).
Over the past ten years, Rio Tinto reports that it has paid $76bn in taxes and royalties globally, including over 78% that was paid in Australia.
