Tesla: 'superchargers' to open up to competition

(CercleFinance.com) - Tesla will open part of its charging network in the US to electric vehicles of other brands, a first in the company's history, the White House announced on Wednesday.

The Californian group intends to open more than 7,500 charging stations to all electric vehicles by the end of 2024, the Biden administration said.

Of this figure, no less than 3,500 "superchargers", its fast-charging stations installed along the highways, will be accessible to users of other brands, with the aim of improving the range of their vehicles.

The project will also cover the network of "destination" recharging stations. Note that in order to access the group's stations, drivers of other brands of electric cars will have to download the Tesla application or visit the company's website.

The White House also said that Tesla plans to more than double the density of its US network of "superchargers", equipment it currently manufactures in Buffalo, New York.

All these announcements were made during the presentation of the "Made-in-America" electric vehicle charging network programme drawn up by the Biden-Harris administration.
