Pfizer: green light to market Prevenar 20 in the EU

(CercleFinance.com) - Pfizer has announced that the European Commission (EC) has granted marketing authorization for its pneumococcal 20-valent conjugate vaccine (marketed in the EU under the brand name PREVENAR 20), for immunization against invasive disease, pneumonia and acute otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae in infants, children and adolescents aged 6 weeks to less than 18 years.


' Authorization by the EC [...] represents a significant opportunity to improve public health by helping to protect against the 20 serotypes responsible for the majority of pneumococcal disease currently circulating in the EU', said Alexandre de Germay, Pfizer's International Commercial Director and Executive Vice President.

The authorization is valid in the 27 EU member states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
