Amazon: a new forecast tool in 'cloud' mode

(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday, Amazon Web Services, Amazon's division dedicated to the "cloud" announced the launch of a prediction tool which is presented as being 50% more efficient than traditional methods.


The e-commerce giant says it has developed this machine learning technology over the last 20 years of business, which has seen it deliver billions of parcels each year to tens of thousands of post codes.

The Seattle based group believes that its offer, called "Amazon Forecast" can be used for tasks ranging from sales forecasting to infrastructure optimization, and even workforce management.

The "Amazon Forecast" solution has already been selected by the consulting group Accenture, it said, which argues that the utility provider Puget Sound Energy (PSE) also uses it to anticipate its customers' consumption of gas and electricity.
