Airbus: develops wireless connectivity from space

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has announced that it is working with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), NTT DOCOMO (DOCOMO) and SKY Perfect JSAT to study the feasibility of collaborating on future high-altitude platform stations (HAPS), which would enable the development of a wireless connectivity ecosystem from space.


The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the partners aims to identify the initial requirements for the deployment of such a network.

As part of this, the partners could leverage the Zephyr, a solar-powered, fixed-wing, unmanned stratospheric air system from Airbus, as well as the wireless communication networks of NTT, DOCOMO and SKY Perfect JSAT.

In the global push to advance 5G and eventually introduce 6G, initiatives are underway to expand coverage around the world, including in the oceans and in the air, as well as in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
