ArcelorMittal: decarbonisation project in Canada
(CercleFinance.com) - ArcelorMittal announced on Friday that it is going to invest over 1.
7 billion Candian dollars (1.2 billion euros) with the Canadian government in a project to decarbonise the operations of its Dofasco steel plant in Ontario.
The project is expected to reduce the site's CO2 emissions by around three million tonnes per year, or 60%, over the next seven years.
Under the terms of the agreement, the steelmaker plans to move away from oxygen conversion-based production to use hydrogen and electricity in its blast furnaces, a process with a "significantly lower" CO2 footprint.
