Unilever: to resume advertising on Facebook and Twitter

(CercleFinance.com) - Consumer goods giant Unilever said on Friday that it will resume brand advertising on social media newsfeed platforms Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as from next month.

In a statement, the Anglo-Dutch company said that it has been encouraged by the platforms' new commitments and reporting to monitor progress, although warned that it will closely watch potential "polarization" in the social media newsfeeds following the US election.

In June, Unilever decided to pause brand advertising on social networks in the US, through to the end of 2020 at least, joining many other companies in efforts to halt hate speech and misinformation on the platforms.

The group's justification for its decision is a its eagerness to promote diversity and a "positive digital ecosystem for consumers, brands, and society."
