AstraZeneca: EU panel recommends diabetes drug

(CercleFinance.com) - On Friday a European Union panel recommended approval of AstraZeneca's Qtrilmet to treat type 2 diabetes.


The EU's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) adopted a positive opinion for the product, recommending the granting of a marketing authorisation for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Qtrilmet is a combination of three oral blood glucose lowering medicines.

The most common side effects are upper respiratory tract infections and gastrointestinal symptoms. When used with insulin or sulphonylurea the risk of hypoglycaemia occurring can also increase, the CHMP said.
