GlaxoSmithKline: FDA approves shingles vaccine

(CercleFinance.com) - GlaxoSmithKline announced on Monday that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its application for Shingrix, its vaccine to prevent shingles in immunosuppressed patients.

Shingles, caused by the virus that causes chickenpox, usually appears as a rash, with pain described as a burning sensation, a stabbing or an electric shock.

GSK previously licensed the vaccine - given intramuscularly in two doses two to six months apart - in adults aged 50 years or older in the US in 2017.
