Thales: selected by the ESA

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to study the fundamental techniques, models and algorithms that will facilitate the implementation of a future Lunar Radio Navigation System (LRNS).


The exploration of the moon is a strategic priority for space exploration, both for ESA and for the industry, and will enable the launch of future manned missions to Mars, the group says.

In collaboration with Telespazio, Thales Alenia Space is responsible for the definition and design of the overall system, as well as completing the space and the lunar segments.

Thales shares aren't really in orbit today though - down 0.5% just before 11 am in Paris.
