M6: stock down - but RTL retains majority stake

(CercleFinance.com) - RTL Group today announced that it has decided to retain its majority stake in Groupe M6.


The decision follows a review of strategic options, after RTL Group received several attractive offers for its 48.3% stake in Groupe M6.

Thomas Rabe, RTL Group CO, said that M6 delivered record results in 2021. RTL will continue with its strategy to build national media groups of sufficient size to compete with US platforms.

Note that just last month (n 16 September 2022à, Groupe Bouygues, RTL Group, Groupe TF1 and Groupe M6 decided to abandon their plans to merge Groupe TF1 and Groupe M6. Following this decision, RTL Group received several offers for its majority stake in Groupe M6.

However, RTL Group considers that the legal risks and uncertainties are too high and has therefore decided not to sell or reduce its 48.3% stake in M6 Group.

Note that people seem to have switched channels this morning, with M6 shares down 7.5% in early exchanges.
