SAP: chooses future chairman of supervisory board

(CercleFinance.com) - SAP announced on Monday that it had chosen Pekka Ala-Pietilä, a former executive of Finnish network equipment supplier Nokia, as the future Chairman of its Supervisory Board.

Ala-Pietilä's appointment will be put to shareholders for a two-year term at its AGM, to succeed Hasso Plattner.

Hasso Plattner, co-founder of the German software group, has chaired the Supervisory Board since 2003.

Pekka Ala-Pietilä, 67, was previously a member of SAP's Supervisory Board between 2002 and 2021.

Between 2018 and 2020, he held the position of chairman of the European Union's high-level expert group on artificial intelligence, as well as that of chairman of the Finnish AI program between 2017 and 2019.

SAP praises his sound knowledge of the technology sector and the subtleties of a European company's governance, as well as his 'unwavering' support at many crucial moments for the company.

Even so, following this announcement, SAP shares were down 0.8% on Monday morning on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, posting the biggest drop on the DAX index.
