Blackberry: historical patents sold to Catapult

(CercleFinance.com) - BlackBerry announced on Monday that it will sell its non-core assets to Catapult IP Innovations for 600 million dollars.

The Canadian company said the patents it is selling relate to its historical assets in mobile handsets, telephone messaging and wireless networks.

BlackBerry, which has now refocused on security software and services for businesses and governments, says the patents that are essential to its continued operations are not affected.

Catapult is an acquisition vehicle (SPAC) created with the sole intention of acquiring BlackBerry's historical assets.

One of the ways the company has been financed is through the issuance of a long-term bond of 450 million dollars.
