Renault: Envision set to build plant in Douai

(CercleFinance.com) - The Chinese group Envision is to set up an electric battery factory in Douai in northern France to supply the Renault site, according to information from Le Figaro.


The new factory could create 2,000 jobs by 2025, the paper says. Another source cited by La Voix du Nord mentions over 1,500 jobs.

The regional council and the Douai agglomeration are expected to participate in the financial round table for the building of this factory, with a massive investment of several tens of millions of euros, La Voix du Nord says.

Envision announced its desire to set up in France in September 2020, while Renault's CEO, Luca de Meo, said that its electric car manufacturing hub in the North of France could become the largest in Europe, Invest Securities says.

For the record, Envision has bought AESC, Nissan's electric battery division, and would also like to build a battery factory in the UK, the analyst added.
