ArcelorMittal: starts to make additives
(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday ArcelorMittal announced that it would be entering the additive manufacturing market by offering metal powders that it will sell to the aerospace, defense, automotive, medical equipment and energy sectors.
The steelmaker reports that it has begun the construction of a gas atomizer in Aviles, near Gijon (Spain), which will feature technologies such as laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and 3D metal printing.
Set to begin production in January 2024, the site will be able to handle production batches ranging from 200 kg to three tonnes, with an annual capacity of 1,000 tonnes.
The steel giant explains that the additive manufacturing market has boomed over the past ten years, and is expected to continue to post double-digit growth over the next ten years.
