Walmart: to launch new membership program

(CercleFinance.com) - On Tuesday Walmart unveiled a new membership program, the latest move by the US retail giant to win market shares from Amazon Prime.

The program - called Walmart+ - will allow customers to receive unlimited free delivery from stores, fuel discounts and access to tools that make shopping "faster," the company said.

The idea is that users can benefit from in-store prices as fast as same-day on over 160,000 items, ranging from tech and toys, to household essentials and groceries.

Users can also fill up and save up to 5 cents per gallon at nearly 2,000 Walmart and Murphy service stations, the retailer said, which added that the list of benefits will grow over time.

Membership will cost 98 dollars a year, or 12.95 dollars a month, including a 15-day free trial period.
