Pfizer: acquires Global Blood Therapeutics

(CercleFinance.com) - Pfizer today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Global Blood Therapeutics (GBT), a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development and delivery of treatments for diseases such as sickle cell disease.


GBT has developed oxbryta, a drug that directly targets sickle cell disease, an inherited blood disorder that affects millions of people primarily in tropical countries. Its net sales reached approximately 195 million dollars in 2021.

Under the terms of the deal, the pharmaceutical company will acquire all GBT shares for 68.50 dollars per share in cash, for a total enterprise value of approximately 5.4 billion dollars, including debt and net of cash acquired.
