Ericsson: expects 610 million new 5G subscriptions

(CercleFinance.com) - Ericsson estimates that nearly one in five mobile subscriptions worldwide will be 5G by the end of 2023.


This statistic appears in the November 2023 edition of Ericsson's Mobility Report, which estimates that there will be 610 million new 5G subscriptions for the year 2023 - a 63% increase on 2022 - bringing the global total to 1.6 billion, around 100 million more than previously forecast.

In the six years between the end of 2023 and 2029, global 5G subscriptions are expected to grow by more than 330%, from 1.6 billion to 5.3 billion. 5G coverage should be available to more than 45% of the world's population by the end of 2023, and 85% by the end of 2029.

Fredrik Jejdling, executive vice president and head of networks at Ericsson, says: ' The rollout of 5G continues and we are seeing an increasing number of standalone 5G networks being deployed, offering opportunities to support new and more demanding applications for consumers and businesses alike.'
