Ericsson: one billion 5G subscriptions expected this year

(CercleFinance.com) - Ericsson says that the number of 5G subscriptions should exceed one billion units this year.


The forecast, which features in the Swedish network equipment maker's latest mobility report, is based on the strength of the North American market, where nine out of 10 subscriptions are expected to be for 5G over the next five years.

In Western Europe, 5G is expected to account for 82% of subscriptions by 2027, followed by the Gulf States with 80% penetration and North East Asia (74%).

In India, where 5G rollout has just begun, 5G technology is expected to account for less than 40% of subscriptions by 2027.

According to the report, 5G is expected to cover up to 50% of the global population by the end of 2027.
