Airbus: last NH90 Caiman delivered to French army
(CercleFinance.com) - On Tuesday, the French defense procurement agency (DGA) announced that it had taken delivery of the latest NH90 Caiman Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) for the French army, at the Airbus site in Marignane.
With the gradual withdrawal of the Pumas, the NH90 Caiman is set to form the main fleet of maneuver and assault helicopters alongside the upgraded Cougar and Caracal, with 63 in service with the French army and 27 with the French navy.
The NH90 carries out tactical transport missions for troops (up to 20 soldiers) and equipment (up to 2.5 tons), as well as medical evacuations.
It is produced by the NATO Helicopter Industries (NH Industries) consortium, comprising Airbus, AgustaWestland (now Leonardo) and the Dutch company Fokker.
NH90s for the French armed forces are assembled at Airbus Helicopters France's Marignane site.
A special version of the NH90 TTH, dedicated to the French army's special forces, has recently been ordered, with 18 units to be delivered between 2026 and 2029.
