Airbus: successful preliminary review for CRYSTAL satellite

(CercleFinance.com) - Airbus has announced that the European Space Agency has confirmed that the preliminary design of the satellite for CRISTAL, the Copernicus polar ice and snow topography mission, has met all system requirements.


CRISTAL's altimeter will measure the snow cover of the ice caps for the first time, providing data that will support maritime operations in the polar oceans and contribute to a better understanding of climate processes.

The 1.7-tonne satellite will have on-board memory that can store up to 4 terabits of data at a time, providing scientists with a wealth of information over its 7.5-year lifetime. Its launch is currently scheduled for 2027.
