Eni: makes offshore oil discovery in Mexico

(CercleFinance.com) - Eni said on Monday that it has found "good quality" oil in mid-deep water of Mexico in a new discovery that may contain between 200 and 300 million barrels of crude oil.


The well, which has led to the discovery, is the sixth consecutive successful well drilled by the Italian energy firm in Mexico's Sureste Basin.

It is located approximately 65 kilometres off the coast, and was drilled in a water depth of 340 metres, reaching a total depth of 3,830 metres.

Eni - which has been present in Mexico since 2006 - said it considers the country as "core" in its strategy.

The company is currently producing approximately 15,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and expects to reach a plateau of 100,000 barrels a day in the first half of 2021.

Eni said it also plans an important exploration campaign in the other licenses held in Mexico.
