Diageo: agreement with ecoSPIRITS for sustainable packaging

(CercleFinance.com) - Diageo today announced a global agreement with circular economy technology company ecoSPIRITS.


The agreement provides a flexible framework for Diageo to test and develop circular packaging in 18 markets over the next three years.

The collaboration is to begin with Diageo's Gordon's gin, Captain Morgan rum and Smirnoff vodka.

Specifically, the innovative ecoSPIRITS technology will enable Diageo's spirits to be dispensed in a 4.5-liter 'ecoTOTE', which functions like a cask. It will provide a closed-loop circular economy system: once the ecoTOTE is empty, it will be collected and taken to off-site facilities, where it will be cleaned and refilled with the same spirit before being distributed and reused.

Diageo believes that this collaboration will bring benefits in terms of sustainability, with reductions in carbon emissions and waste. Precise figures will be released at the end of the three-year period.
