Thales: Alenia Space validates solar technology

(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space (a joint venture between Thales; majority stake, and Leonardo; minority stake), today announced the success of the static mechanical validation tests of the first scale 1 photovoltaic modules, specially designed for its Stratobus autonomous stratospheric airship.


These photovoltaic modules are flexible, economical, light, high efficiency and have a large area. They are designed to meet precise constraints in terms of the thermal and mechanical environment.

The first Stratobus flight is scheduled for 2022. Eventually, it will have multiple missions: observation, surveillance and even telecommunication, all for a period of 5 years.
