Nexans: awarded contract for Celtic Interconnector project

(CercleFinance.com) - Nexans has announced that it has been awarded the contract for the Celtic Interconnector project, jointly led by the French electricity transmission network RTE and its Irish counterpart EirGrid.


The 700 MW project will be the longest XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) interconnector cable ever built in the world and will be the first submarine line to enable a direct exchange of electricity between France and Ireland.

This system will accelerate Europe's energy transition by promoting the development of renewable energy sources. The project will also help the EU to meet its energy and climate objectives through cost-effective, secure and sustainable energy for all, Nexans said.
