Nokia: wins two 5G deals in Africa

(CercleFinance.com) - Finnish telecoms gear maker Nokia said on Monday that it has won two 5G deals in Africa, in a market where competition remains tough.

The Espoo-based company said it has been selected by mobile operator Togocom in a three-year deal to deploy 5G across the country.

In the capital city Lomé, the 5G network has just been launched, the first time a 5G network has been deployed in West Africa, the group said.

In Kenya, Nokia has been chosen by Airtel in a three-year deal to modernize Nairobi with high speed 4G and 5G-ready hardware.

Deployment, which began in June, will cover hundreds of sites and include upgrading existing 2G, 3G and 4G radio access network coverage in urban, highways, tourist spots and central business districts in Nairobi and the rest of the country, it said.

The terms of the deals were not disclosed.
