Metro: buys Portuguese food service distribution group
(CercleFinance.com) - Metro is buying Aviludo, Portugal's second largest food service distribution company, further strengthening its position in this market, the German retail group said on Monday.
While Metro did not disclose the price of the deal, it said Aviludo achieved net sales of 152 million euros last year, supplying over 13,500 restaurants, canteens and food chains.
Founded in 1984, Aviludo delivers dry, fresh and frozen products. The company employs around 850 people, including approximately 150 field sales representatives, Metro said.
The retailer pointed out that the acquisition, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2021, strengthens its position in the growing food service distribution market following the acquisitions of Classic Fine Foods and France's Pro à Pro and Rungis Express in recent years.
