BASF: introduces container-type sodium-sulfur battery

( - BASF Stationary Energy Storage, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BASF, and NGK Insulators (NGK), a Japanese ceramics manufacturer, have launched an advanced container-type NAS battery (sodium-sulfur battery).

The new NAS Model L24 product was developed jointly by NGK and BASF, and features a degradation rate of significantly less than 1% per year, thanks to reduced corrosion of the battery cells.

BASF also highlights an improved thermal management system in the battery modules, enabling longer continuous discharge.

These improvements should enable significantly fewer NAS battery containers to be used during the project runtime, and with lower maintenance costs.

We are proud to have contributed to the advancement of NAS battery technology, which is an essential element of a successful energy transition, BASF Stationary Energy Storage GmbH said.
