ABB: partners with AI startup to develop e-commerce robots

(CercleFinance.com) - ABB is partnering with Silicon Valley-based artificial intelligence startup Covariant to bring smart robots to the e-commerce market.


In a statement, the Swiss engineering group said that it has identified a significant opportunity for AI-enabled robotics solutions across applications such as logistics, warehousing, and mail sorting, with growing demand for e-commerce fulfillment services.

With this in mind, in 2019 ABB launched a competition to assess AI technology start-ups on their approach to solutions for picking, packing and sorting.

ABB said Covariant's AI software enables robots to see, reason and act in the world around them, completing tasks that are too complex and varied for traditional programmed robots.
