Wells Fargo: names new CEO

(CercleFinance.com) - Without a CEO for almost six months now, Wells Fargo today announced that it has named the former chairman and CEO of Bank of New York Mellon, Charles Scharf, as chief executive officer, effective from 21 October.

Scharf has also been named a member of the board.

Prior to his role at BNY Mellon, Scharf was CEO at Visa. Before joining the credit card issuer, he was a managing director at the private investment arm of JP Morgan Chase.

In March, the board appointed Allen Parker as interim CEO after the sudden departure of Timothy Sloan. The bank then launched an external search for his successor.

Parker will continue to serve in the role until Scharf joins the Californian banking group.
