Merck: FDA approves first Ebola vaccine

(CercleFinance.com) - The Food and Drug Administration has approved Merck's Ervebo, the first vaccine for the prevention of the Ebola virus, the US health regulator said on Thursday.

While the risk of the Ebola virus in the US remains low, the FDA said, the US government remains committed to fighting Ebola outbreaks in Africa, including the current outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the agency said.

Ebola is transmitted through direct contact with blood, body fluids and tissues of infected wild animals or people, as well as with surfaces and materials, such as bedding and clothing.

Symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache and sore throat, followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rash, and in some cases internal and external bleeding.
