Merck: to buy animal health firm for 2.1 billion euros

(CercleFinance.com) - Merck said that it will buy France's Antelliq for 2.
1 billion euros, plus take on its debt, giving the US drugmaker an entry into the growing market of digital animal identification.

The company said this Friday that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire all outstanding shares of Antelliq from funds advised by BC Partners.

Merck will also take on Antelliq's debt of 1.15 billion euros, which it intends to repay shortly after the acquisition is closed.

Antelliq's traceability and monitoring solutions help vets, farmers and pet owners gather data about the health and well-being of livestock and pets.

The Brittany-based firm made 360 euros in sales in the past financial year on this fast-growing segment of the animal health industry.

The transaction is expected to be closed in the second quarter of 2019.
