Johnson & Johnson: big fine in the US.

(CercleFinance.com) - There's been a setback for Johnson & Johnson, which has been ordered by a Los Angeles court in California, to pay 417 million dollars in damages for a trial relating to a talc accused of being a carcinogenic.

In detail, the US pharmaceutical giant will pay 70 million dollars in compensatory damages and 347 million in punitive damages to Eva Echeverria, a 63-year-old woman who claims that the use of talc when she went to the bathroom led to ovarian cancer.

The jury agreed, considering that "J&J" had not informed this woman about the risks related to talc.

Furthermore, Eva Echeverria is not just an isolated case, with the group having to face... 4,800 related lawsuits. It has already paid out a total of 720 million dollars in related matters. However, J&J is not giving up on the matter.

Indeed, in April, in its support, the National Cancer Institute's Physician Data Query Editorial Board wrote, “The weight of evidence does not support an association between perineal talc exposure and an increased risk of ovarian cancer.”
