Intel: progress on Ohio 'mega site' project
(CercleFinance.com) - Intel announced on Thursday that it has selected a consortium led by family-owned Gilbane Construction Group to begin work on its future "mega site" to be based in Ohio.
The consortium, which also includes McDaniel's Construction, Northstar Contracting and GTSA Construction Consulting, has been tasked with the excavation and earthmoving duties in preparation for the start of construction of two state-of-the-art plants.
Between them, these four companies plan to hire some 7,000 professionals for the project, with tens of thousands more indirectly employed in trades such as hospitality.
In a statement, Intel says that these two "fabs" - which represent a cumulative investment of over 20 billion dollars - should help it to increase its production capacity and cope with the increase in demand for the most advanced semiconductors.
