Intel: buys Israeli data center firm amid AI push

(CercleFinance.com) - Californian chipmaker Intel said on Monday that it has acquired Habana Labs, an Israel-based designer of programmable deep learning processors for data centers for approximately 2 billion dollars.

The deal is intended to strengthen Intel's artificial intelligence (AI) portfolio and accelerate its efforts in the fast-growing AI silicon market, which Intel expects to exceed the 25 billion dollar mark by 2024.

Intel expects to generate over 3.5 billion dollars in AI-driven revenue this year, up over 20% from 2018.

Habana will remain an independent business unit and will continue to be led by its current management team, the company said.
