Ford: two 'mega campus' to be built in US

(CercleFinance.com) - Ford last night announced that it will spend several billion dollars to build two "mega-sites" dedicated to electric vehicles in the southern United States.

With its partner, South Korea's SK Innovation, the US carmaker plans to invest 11.4 billion dollars in the development of two plants in Tennessee and Kentucky, aiming to create 11,000 new jobs.

The Stanton (Tennessee) campus - in which Ford will invest 5.6 billion dollars - will be dedicated to the assembly of F-Series electric pick-ups.

This project, called "Blue Oval City", which is to be accompanied by the creation of a battery manufacturing unit, is expected to create 6,000 jobs. It will be net zero from the moment it is commissioned.

Meanwhile, in Kentucky, the "BlueOvalSK Battery Park" - developed with SK - will be entirely dedicated to battery manufacturing. With an estimated investment of 5.8 billion dollars, this project should create around 5,000 jobs.

In a statement, Ford points out that its decision is based on strong demand for the Ford F-150 Lightning, its fully electric pick-up, as well as the E-Transit utility vehicle and the electric Mustang Mach-E.
