Exxon Mobil: production sharing agreement in Suriname.

(CercleFinance.com) - Exxon Mobil has signed with the national oil company of Suriname a production sharing contract for a block, adding acreage to its portfolio in the Guyana-Suriname basin.

Deepwater Block 59 is found in water depths ranging from almost 2,000 metres to 3,600 metres, and is found approximately 305 kilometres offshore from Suriname's capital city, Paramaribo, the energy giant said.

The block is 2.8 million acres, or 4,430 square miles, and shares a maritime border with Guyana, where ExxonMobil is the operator of three offshore blocks.

New York-based Hess and Norway's Statoil will each hold a third of the interest in the block, with ExxonMobil being the operator.

The partners are now preparing to begin exploration activities, including acquisition and analysis of seismic data.
