Apple: EU to examine proposed acquisition of Shazam
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission has accepted the request made by Austria, France, Iceland, Italy, Norway, Spain and Sweden, asking it to examine Apple's proposed acquisition of Shazam.
The Commission considers that the transaction risks undermining competition within the EEA.
Austria has submitted a request for referral to the Commission, pursuant to EU Merger Regulations.
"This provision allows Member States to request the Commission to examine a concentration which does not have a European dimension but which affects trade within the single market and threatens to significantly affect competition on the territory of the Member States. Iceland, Italy, France, Norway, Spain and Sweden subsequently joined the request."
