American Airlines: 1,000 dollar bonus for employees

(CercleFinance.com) - As a result of the lower maximum corporate tax rate (from 35% to 21%) adopted by Congress, American Airlines yesterday announced that it will award a bonus of 1,000 dollars to each of its employees.
Southwest Airlines made a similar announcement on the same day.

Although the company does not pay cash to pay tax, because of the huge losses that it has suffered in the past, there is no doubt that new fiscal conditions will have long-term positive effects for American Airlines, meaning that the company will be able to invest more in planes and facilities, the group announced in a letter sent to employees by the chairman of the US airline Robert Isom and COO Doug Parker.

According to the latest available annual report, American Airlines had 122,300 full-time employees as of 31 December 2016. The group estimates the amount of this bonus at 130 million dollars and has announced that it will be paid in the first quarter of 2018.
