Amazon: 39 new renewable energy projects in Europe

(CercleFinance.com) - Amazon announced on Monday that it had launched 39 new renewable energy projects in Europe this year, including 15 photovoltaic installations on the roofs of its buildings and 24 wind or solar farms.

In all, the US e-commerce giant says it currently has over 160 wind and solar projects in 13 European countries.

Its latest projects include the installation of rooftop photovoltaic panels in Belgium, Spain, France, Italy and the UK, as well as the launch of new solar and wind farms in Germany, Spain, Finland, Greece, the UK and Sweden.

When all commissioned, these projects are expected to supply 5.8 gigawatts of clean energy, equivalent to the electricity consumption of over 3.2 million European households over a one-year period, it says.

In all, Amazon's renewable energy projects in Europe have generated $2.4bn in capex between 2014 and 2022, and created over 3,900 jobs in 2022 alone.

Amazon says that it intends to power 100% of its operations with renewable energy by 2025.
