Amazon: to adapt space opera into new TV series
(CercleFinance.com) - Amazon Studios has acquired the global television rights to adapt Iain M.
Banks' sci-fi novel "Consider Phlebas" for a new series following the success of "Altered Carbon" on VoD platform Netflix.
Described as a "space opera" taking place in a "fictional interstellar utopian society," the novel tells the story of Horza, a rogue agent tasked with the mission of recovering a missing "mind," an artificial intelligence many thousands of times smarter than any human.
The series will be adapted by Dennis Kelly (Utopia, Matilda) with Plan B Entertainment (World War Z, 12 Years a Slave, The Big Short) slated to produce.
The decision follows the huge success with audiences of "Altered Carbon," Netflix's cyberpunk noir which is set more than 300 years in the future.
