Amazon: to open second headquarters in North America.
(CercleFinance.com) - Amazon today unveiled plans to open a second company headquarters in North America, the location of which has yet to be determined.
The e-commerce giant - which states that its new headquarters will be equivalent to its current headquarters in downtown Seattle - expects to invest over 5 billion dollars on the project.
The complex's capacity is expected to grow to 50,000 employees over the years.
Construction and ongoing operation of Amazon' so-called "HQ2" should also generate tens of billions of dollars in additional investment in the surrounding community, the group said.
As a reminder, Amazon's 8.1 million square feet Seattle HQ has 33 buildings, 24 restaurants and cafes for over 40,000 employees who work there.
