6% stake in the US electronic security systems specialist ADT.
Both companies describe this investment as part of a broader partnership to provide integrated smart technologies for home security.
Under the terms of the agreement, starting from this year, ADT plans to offer Google devices to its clients, before further integrating the Internet giant's products.
Google and ADT say they also each plan to spend 150 million each on product development, co-marketing and employee training to further their partnership.
To begin with, the funds from Google's investment will be used to drive ADT's growth and reduce the group's debt.
