SAS: March traffic down almost 60% year-on-year

(CercleFinance.com) - SAS said on Tuesday that its March passenger traffic fell almost 60% from the same month a year ago, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions that have been imposed by many governments.

The Scandinavian airline said it carried just 995,000 passengers in the past month, compared to 2.5 million passengers in March 2019.

Even though capacity was reduced by over 45% compared to last year, SAS said its passenger load factor - a measure of how it fills its planes - fell 21.7 percentage points year-on-year to 48.6%.

The airline, owned by Sweden, Norway and Denmark, said almost all its flights will be canceled in April, apart from a few domestic routes in Norway and Sweden.
